Knowing Christ and Him Crusified (Song of Songs 1:13)

A bundle of myrrh is my beloved to me, That lies all night between my breasts.

The Shulamite compares king Solomon with a bundle of myrrh resting upon her heart. Myrrh was most commonly used as a costly burial spice; this speaks of the cross.

Treasured above all else is Christ and His Cross. It is the fragrance of meekness; and the fullest expression of love that transcends the ages. For the believer, the coss is the sweetest meditation; filling the heart with wonder and terror as we see the Righteous Judgement of God and His Mercy displayed. For all of eternity we will be undone by what great lengths God has gone for us; every moment of revelation will cause euruptions of praise that floods the heavens with choruses of love.

Knowledge of the cross emboldens the heart and causes us to fall more in love with Him. The issue is settled; as the enemy accuses God to us. There is no question of God’s love, dedication, and zeal for us when we behold what He has done. We are strengthened and emboldened to lay down our lives for Jesus as we think upon The Father giving up His son and the son giving all of Himself.

For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified.  – 1 Corinthians 2:2
