Jesus the Great High Priest (Revelation 1:13)

and in the midst of the seven lampstands One like the Son of Man, clothed with a garment down to the feet and girded about the chest with a golden band.

In the midst of the seven lamp stands is one like the Son of Man. Jesus is the Godman who rules the nations as King of Kings. He is one hundred percent man and one hundred percent God. That’s why John says “like.” He is a man, but is glorified; His appearance expresses divinity. This is the same man that was born of the Virgin Mary and walked among us. In His resurrection He has not laid aside His humanity, but will forever be the Son of Man. He has forever humbled Himself that we can relate to Him in covenant.

13 “I was watching in the night visions, And behold, One like the Son of Man, Coming with the clouds of heaven! He came to the Ancient of Days, And they brought Him near before Him. 14 Then to Him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, That all peoples, nations, and languages should serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion, Which shall not pass away, And His kingdom the one Which shall not be destroyed. -Daniel 7:13-14

He is clothed with a garment down to His feet. By wearing the robe of the high priest, Jesus shows Himself as the Sympathetic High Priest who made a way for us to live in God’s presence.

14 Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. -Hebrews 4:14-16

19 Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, 20 by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh, 21 and having a High Priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. -Hebrews 10:19-22

He is girded about the chest with a golden band. He wears the breastplate of the High Priest and this band is a symbol of authority.

onyx stones, and stones to be set in the ephod and in the breastplate. -Exodus 25:7

He shall put the holy linen tunic and the linen trousers on his body; he shall be girded with a linen sash, and with the linen turban he shall be attired. These areholy garments. Therefore he shall wash his body in water, and put them on. -Leviticus 16:4
